Description
Professional Wooden Flute Headjoints – Alexandre Lavoie Workshop
Based in Montreal, Quebec, Alexandre Lavoie is both a flutist and artisan, trained in classical and jazz performance. After studying under flute maker Jonathan Landell and completing a specialized program in digital programming and machining at the Aerospace Trade School, he has dedicated himself since 2017 to crafting high-end wooden headjoints.
Each Lavoie headjoint combines meticulous craftsmanship with technical precision. Alexandre draws inspiration from the unique tonal qualities of different woods to offer flutists a rich and expressive sound palette, perfectly suited to the needs of professionals and passionate players alike.
The Symphonic 2 is crafted from wood slightly thicker than the standard Symphonic model, giving it a distinctive timbre, particularly well-suited to chamber music.
Metal rings, discreetly embedded beneath wooden rings, provide both optimal balance of the instrument toward the left hand and a unique aesthetic.
The Lavoie Symphonic 2 headjoint takes tonal exploration even further by combining two different wood species, offering greater nuance and personalization. The wood for the tube is carefully selected and paired with either grenadilla or mopane for the lip plate and crown:
• Grenadilla, enhancing clarity and articulation precision.
• Mopane, adding warmth and richness to the tone.
Crafted with the highest precision:
• The Lavoie Symphonic headjoint is crafted from a single piece (lip plate and tube).
• The riser is meticulously finished by hand with absolute precision.
• The headjoint’s cut and dimensions are inspired by the legendary designs of Albert Cooper, guaranteeing refined acoustical performance.
• The tenon is made of sterling silver.
• Each headjoint also features a handmade brass stopper and crown system, silver-lacquered and specially designed to provide greater power, projection, and sound focus.
Woods selected for their outstanding acoustic qualities:
Lavoie symphonic headjoints are made from carefully chosen woods, renowned for their exceptional sound properties:
• ref TBSG - Grenadilla: excellent projection, allowing musicians to be clearly heard in any setting. The preferred choice of professionals.
• Mopane: warm, rich tone with a round and velvety character.
• Boxwood: soft and mellow, highly responsive for expressive and dynamic playing.
• Olivewood: harmonious balance across lows, mids, and highs, with clear and well-defined notes.
• Pink Ivory: valued for its warmth, clarity, tonal balance, strong projection, dynamic response, and refined beauty.
• Cocobolo: striking red, textured wood, offering a supple, rounded sound with slightly less projection than grenadilla.
An instrument that reflects your artistry:
Each wood species shapes the flute’s personality, giving every musician the opportunity to find the headjoint that best matches their style and expression.
